Highrailin'

Highrailing is basically slang for going down the train tracks in some type of vehicle other than a train. Since I have been going over to Eastern Washington and Idaho to help Scott (Staci's husband) work on some bridges, I have been doing plenty of highrailing. Last weekend Leah and the kids came out with me and Scott took my family and me on a once in a lifetime trip on the tracks to see some of the neatest railroad bridges on Earth. Here are just a few pictures to share some of our enjoyment.
This train is parked in Lewiston, ID in one of the supply yards. Unfortunately for Ethan, this was the closest we were able to get him on a real train for the weekend. I don't think he cared all that much.

We set on the track and with Avery in the back seat we headed for the hills.

There were a few crossings that needed to be cleared and Ethan was always the first out of the truck to help.
Here, Ethan waits for us on the side of the track after he walked up ahead to clear some sticks off of the track.
Ethan takes over the driving. Check out his Conductor hat:)
Here is just one of the impressive bridges we get to work on.
Avery got in on the action and enjoys seeing things from the front seat.
This bridge is called "Half Moon" because of the massive curve and it stands about 180' off the ground. We stopped here and had a picnic lunch and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
Avery also gives Scott a break and takes over the wheel.
